Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth dated the guy who wrote the Simpsons’ theme tune while she was at high school

In her autobiography Girl In Band, Kim Gordon mentions that in 1969, while in high school she met and started dated Danny Elfman – who would go on to be the singer and songwriter for Oingo Boingo, also scoring many of Tim Burton’s films and probably most famously/lucratively composing The Simpsons’ theme tune.

Mike from Growing Pains ended up marrying the woman who played his on-screen girlfriend on the show

Eighties teen heart-throb Kirk Cameron who was most famous as Mike Seaver on the ABC sit-com Growing Pains would, in 1991 aged 20, and a virgin, marry Chelsea Noble who portrayed Mike’s girlfriend Kate MacDonald in seasons 5-7 of the show (1989-1991).
Kirk Cameron also starred in a follow up sit-com titled Kirk where he portrays an older brother who is left to bring up his younger siblings, with Chelsea playing the role of his girlfriend Elizabeth Waters.
They also played a married couple in both the Growing Pains re-union movies; although by this point it might be more surprising to learn there was a reunion movie. And a sequel reunion movie.

But wait, there’s more… Chelsea Noble has apparently appeared in numerous other films where Kirk Cameron has had roles as an uncredited “kissing double”, Cameron refusing to kiss anyone else but Noble been when the script called for it.

Martin Luther King Jr’s wife was John Lithgow’s babysitter

John Lithgow spent his childhood years in Yellow Springs,Ohio where he and his siblings were babysat by Coretta Scott while she was attending Antioch College where she became involved in the nascent Civil Rights Movement.

She later won a scholarship to the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston and it was while there she was introduced to Martin Luther King . They became romantically involved and they married in June 1953.

Both Peter Hook and Stephen Morris were Yorkshire Ripper suspects

Stephen Morris and Peter Hook of New Order were both questioned in 1979 as potent suspects in the Yorkshire Ripper case. Joy Division’s touring schedule happened to be similar to Peter Sutcliffe’s movements which led to the police’s suspicion. Following gigs in Halifax, Huddersfield, Leeds and Manchester they were both questioned by police.

Alfie and Lily Allen’s dad co-wrote New Order’s only UK number one single

In 1990 in what has been described “as the last straw for Joy Division fans” having been contacted by the Football Association Press Officer at the time, David Bloomfield via Tony Wilson Football Association Press Officer at the time, David Bloomfield via Tony Wilson- New Order agreed to record that year’s Football World Anthem – it was titled World In Motion.

Comedian, Lily and Alfie’s dad, Kieth Allen co-wrote and co-performed the lyrics for the song. He had initially wanted to call it E is for England in a not so veiled drug reference but that was vetoed by the Football Association.

World In Motion was the last release by New Order on Factory Records.

The liquid-y Terminator in Terminator 2’s brother used to be in Nine Inch Nails

Robert Patrick played the seemingly indestructible and very persistent T-1000 Terminator sent back in time to kill John Conner.

His brother Richard Patrick, after a chance meeting in a record store in Cleveland with a Trent Reznor got the gig as a live guitarist for the band, touring with them from 1989-93, although his only recorded contribution is be heard at the end of “Sanctified” on Pretty Hate Machine.

He appears in the music videos for “Down in It”, “Head Like a Hole”, and “Wish”.

In 1993 he left Nine Inch Nails to front his own band Filter who released their debut album in 1995. Filter had some minor hits; including the controversial debut single “Hey Man, Nice Shot” which was intended as a sardonic commentary on the public suicide of Pennsylvania state treasurer R. Budd Dwyer – who infamously placed a magnum revolver into his mouth at a press conference and shit himself.

Their biggest hit was in 1999 with “Take a Picture” which is basically about Patrick’s propensity to get blank-out drunk and not remember what an ass-hat he’d been the next day.

Incidentally Robert Patrick has a daughter named Austin (named after the police officer Patrick’s character impersonates in Terminator 2).

The original host of Family Feud starred as the host of The Running Man in the 1987 sci-fi action movie by the same name

The US game-show that pitted two families to guess the most popular answers to surveyed questions was originally hosted by Richard Dawson from 1976-1985. Dawson was cast in a self parodying role as Damon Killian in 1987’s The Running Man who hosted the ‘game show’ where convicts were given the chance to be either pardoned for the crime or killed by hunters.

The actor who portrayed Flipper’s special friend Sandy Ricks went on to be a stuntman & speedboat driver in Miami Vice

Luke Halpin was 15 when he won the role if 12 year old Sandy Hicks in the 1962/3 film Flipper a role he reprised in both the film sequel the 1964 TV series by the same name.

Following an acting career that spanned three decades, Halpin became a speed boat pilot and stunt man in feature films including Never Say Never Again, Porky’s Revenge!, Flight of the Navigator and Speed 2: Cruise Control as well as for the television series Miami Vice.

Halpin also had a cameo appearance in the 1996 feature film remake of Flipper which starred Elijah Wood as Sandy Ricks.

David Starsky (of Starsky & Hutch) was roommates with Gwyneth Paltrow’s dad

Paul Michael Glaser who portrayed Detective David Starsky on the 1970s television series, Starsky & Hutch, attended Tulane University where he majored in theatre and English with a minor in architecture and graduated in 1966. During that time his room-mate was Bruce Paltrow – who went on to become a film director and in 1972 had a daughter, Gwyneth.

The Running Man was a 1987 science fiction action film directed by Paul Michael Glasser who had formerly portrayed Detective David Starsky in the hit 1970s police TV action show Starsky & Hutch.

The film’s story, set in a dystopian United States between 2017 and 2019, is about a television show called The Running Man, where convicted criminal “runners” must escape death at the hands of professional killers.
