The US game-show that pitted two families to guess the most popular answers to surveyed questions was originally hosted by Richard Dawson from 1976-1985. Dawson was cast in a self parodying role as Damon Killian in 1987’s The Running Man who hosted the ‘game show’ where convicts were given the chance to be either pardoned for the crime or killed by hunters.

The Running Man was a 1987 science fiction action film directed by Paul Michael Glasser who had formerly portrayed Detective David Starsky in the hit 1970s police TV action show Starsky & Hutch.
The film’s story, set in a dystopian United States between 2017 and 2019, is about a television show called The Running Man, where convicted criminal “runners” must escape death at the hands of professional killers.
