They all attended Abingdon School and would rehearse on Fridays.
They kept the name after leaving school but at the request of EMI who signed them for a six-album deal. Radiohead was selected from the song “Radio Head” on the Talking Heads’ 1986 album True Stories.
Thomas Dolby also attended the school for one year a decade earlier.
Comedian David Mitchell also attended Abingdon at the same time as the members of Radiohead.
“Radio Head” by Talking Heads is, strictly speaking a cover, the song w originally performed in David Byrne’s film also called True Stories, by Tito Larriva as the film character Ramon, with Esteban “Steve” Jordan aka “The Jimi Hendrix of the accordion”.
The film True Stories was released “on a Friday” 10 October 1986.
